What is the Day on the Hill?

TAHC's Day on the Hill is an annual, one day event, that brings home care professionals from across the state to the Capitol to educate lawmakers on the home care industry.  If there is a home care bill being considered by the legislator, attendees may be asked advocate in support or opposition to the bill.  During the Day on the Hill, participants attend pre-scheduled meetings with legislators to educate the lawmaker on their agency, the home care industry, and what is important to them.

Why should I participate?

The overall objective of this event is to create relationships with legislators and policymakers that will lead to better, more informed decisions about the home care industry in Tennessee.  The more interaction and better rapport we build with legislators and their staff, the more likely we are to be consulted and trusted when we encounter issues that require legislative solutions and/or when we determine that a particular proposal would be detrimental to our industry and the people we serve.  The bigger the turnout, the more influence we wield.

How do I participate?

1.  Register for the event.  The event is free to all participants; however, we do request that you register so we can verify attendance.

2.  Schedule your meetings.  3-4 weeks before February 26th, you should begin reaching out to the legislators who serve you, your employees, your patients or your service area to request a constituent meeting.  The meetings last about 15-20 minutes, so past participants have been able to schedule as many as 5-7 meetings during the day.  TAHC can also handle the scheduling of the meetings for you.

3.  Make travel/hotel arrangements if necessary.  Click on the link for downtown hotels information and pricing:

4.  Gather marketing materials for your meetings.  In addition to any agency-specific materials you want to leave with the legislators, TAHC will also have leave behind flyers for your meetings.  These documents can be co-branded in advance of the event, or printed copies will be available onsite.

4.  Attend the event!  Rep. David Hawk, Chair of the TennCare Subcommittee, will open our event with introductory remarks in our meeting room.  Attendees will also be treated to coffee and donuts that morning, and attendees who request a boxed lunch will be provided one.

How do I find out which legislators serve me, my employees, my agency and my patients?

The Tennessee General Assembly maintains an award-winning website with a very helpful “Find My Legislator” feature:  Simply enter the address and click the search button and you be notified of the state representative and senator representing that particular address.

Who Should Attend?

You and your employees who understand and are passionate about the industry.

Business attire or agency uniform.  Be sure to bring business cards!
